The Orchard
Grow - Harvest - Process - Produce
During the winter season, winds play a crucial role in the pollination process by transporting pollen from the male flower called catkins across the orchard.
This natural wind movement of pollen fertilises the small female flowers that are essential for nut development.
Fertilisation occurs in late spring, setting the stage for the growth process. As the summer progresses, the nuts begin to develop, gradually increasing in size and ripeness throughout the warmer months.
By the time late summer arrives, these nuts reach maturity and typically start falling from the trees in March. To efficiently manage the harvest, they are swept into windrows beneath the trees, where they are collected from the ground using a specialised mechanical harvester designed for this purpose.
Once harvested, the nuts undergo a drying process by either sun or mechanical drying to achieve the optimal kernel moisture content. This important step allows the nuts to dry properly, after which they are stored in silos to ensure their preservation to provide our customers with freshly cracked and processed hazelnuts all year round.
Year Round Production
Our nuts are mechanically cracked weekly, ensuring that the kernels are at their freshest for our high-quality products and valued customers, maintaining the superior flavour and nutritional integrity of the nuts.
The natural skin that encases the hazelnut kernel is rich in antioxidants, which play a crucial role in preserving the kernel’s freshness and quality. Thanks to these beneficial properties, our nuts can be stored for over 12 months without compromising their taste or nutritional value, allowing us to provide you with the best possible product year-round.
